Therefore, your CD burner will work slightly faster if it is on the same channel as the drive Yes, but, "slightly faster" for a CD-Drive is still "slow as molasses in January" for a hard drive. There would be no benefit gained by chaining his HD with his CD Burner... I think they should be hooked up as follows:

Hi, Just spent a few hours trying to install a cd burner my dad gave me. With only a 2.1 gig hard drive, I wanted to keep my old cd-player too, so that I don't have to muck around with caches as much. While I was there I installed a sound card, and that worked just fine. Was kind of proud of myself.

DVD recorder drives cost about the same as CD burners. No matter what you do, you can only Write/Record/Burn CDs or DVDs on one drive at a time. You cannot use Windows XP's Built-In CD Burner to burn DVDs. You would also need a newer version of Nero software to burn DVDs. If you were to buy the right DVD recorder

Evidently, I downlaoded CD BURNER. I assume you mean Apple's "Disc Burner" software. My iMac does not have an internal CD burner. It does have a USB connection to an Iomega Predator CD burner. Which now does not work. When I open Toast OEM it says no CD burner, check cables and power. Those things are connected.
